Chris Jericho on Monday announced he’ll be returning to television soon. However, wrestling fans hoping for an update about his future in the ring will have to continue to wait
.On his Instagram page, The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla shared that he will be a special guest star on the upcoming episode of the CBS series Tracker. The wrestling legend added he will be playing a villainous character named Virgil Dean for the episode airing this coming Sunday (March 22).
“Stoked to announce I’ll be playing
the lead bad guy on this Sunday’s episode of @trackercbs, the NUMBER ONE SHOW on network tv!!!” Jericho wrote in the caption of his Instagram announcement. “The episode is called #Breakaway also starring @justinhartley, @fionarene, @davidpaulramsey & @durance.erica and was directed by @davidmbarrett395 ! I play #VirgilDean and let’s just say, he’s not a nice guy. Can’t wait for you all to see it, THIS SUNDAY at 9pm EST on @cbstv & @paramountplus!”
While Jericho has kept busy with other projects, the wrestling community has been waiting for his next move as his AEW contract has either already expired or will do so soon. The 55-year-old ring legend could still re-sign with Tony Khan’s company, though many fans might prefer for him to return to WWE.
In November, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE had pitched a retirement storyline to Jericho, but the Canadian superstar has been tight-lipped about any decision regarding wrestling.
As for now, Chris has at least landed a role on a hit show. Tracker is based on a 2019 novel by Jeffrey Deaver and stars Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw. According to CBS’ description of the show, Shaw is a “trusted lone-wolf survivalist who uses his instincts to find the missing and collect rewards.”
The show has received strong reviews from critics with its first season scoring an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, while also being a big ratings success. It debuted in 2024 and is currently in its third season.
