Newcastle United’s early-season injury problems have deprived Matthias Jaissle of several important players, with William Osula among those unavailable after suffering a foot problem in the opening game of the campaign.
There is now significantly better news surrounding the striker. The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope reported before the weekend that Osula has come out of his protective boot, is fully mobile and could even return before the upcoming international break after fears of a lengthy absence after such
a report emerged in Denmark proved unfounded.
Crucially, Hope revealed that the 23-year-old has not suffered a fracture and does not require surgery. Osula is already working at Newcastle’s training ground to rebuild his fitness, and staff are pushing to have him available for next weekend’s home game against Hull City, the club’s final fixture before the first international, three-week break.
Earlier reports suggested Osula’s foot injury was more serious than initially anticipated and could keep the Denmark international sidelined for an extended period. Hope has now allayed those concerns, although Newcastle is not yet counting on Osula being 100% ready for Hull.
The more realistic target, according to Hope’s sources, is Newcastle’s first game following the international break, away at Coventry City on Oct. 12.
Either timeline would represent encouraging news for Jaissle. Osula has been available for only 56 minutes this season, limiting the head coach’s attacking options during the opening weeks of his Newcastle tenure.
Avoiding surgery should also allow the striker to concentrate on rebuilding his fitness rather than facing a prolonged rehabilitation.
