Good morning, baseball fans.
Last week, Venezuela was hit with back-to-back 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that devastated the country, killing nearly a thousand people and injuring thousands more.
Unfortunately, among those who perished in the damage was the wife of former San Francisco Giants outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, Deisy Maria Tovar De Hernandez. Hernandez shared the loss on his Instagram, expressing grief, but also determination to carry on for her memory.
I was hoping to find a fundraiser
for the family, but it doesn’t appear as though there is one at this time. However, anyone wishing to help those affected by the earthquake can check out this article from TIME that has a list of organizations people can donate to to help with the recovery efforts.
I also recommend donating to Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, as they are offering on the ground assistance with feeding the folks who have been affected by this horrible tragedy.
The staff of McCovey Chronicles would like to send our sincerest condolences and support to Hernandez, and the rest of Deisy’s family, during this extremely difficult time.
What time do the Giants play today?
The Giants continue this road series against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at 6:40 p.m. PT.
