Good morning, TSFers. I’d like to start out with a hearty ‘eff you to the weather in D.C. It’s was already soupy, swampy humid when I walked Gunner at 7 am this morning and we’re supposed to have heat indexes pushing up and over 100 the next three days. I guess summer wanted to smack us around one more time this year.
Fortunately, I’ve got the crazy transfer goodness of Deadline Day to keep me inside. The window slams shut, as they like to say, at 6 pm ET / 11 pm BST. But don’t forget, deals submitted
before the window closes can be completed a few hours afterwards. As we’re reminded every single year.
Absent something coming out of the blue, I’d expect Arsenal to be pretty quiet. Ethan Nwaneri appears headed to Borussia Dortmund on loan this season, more on that in a standalone post. Malick Fofana, who was linked with the Gunners yesterday, looked headed to Sunderland before Crystal Palace entered the fray at the last minute. We’ll see where the Belgian winger ends up. Not Arsenal, it would seem.
Gabriel Martinelli is heading to Al Hilal but the club haven’t announced it yet. I’m guessing they want to handle that particular goodbye with the style and class it deserves. Gabriel Jesus was in Barcelona last night to watch his new teammates. Fabio Vieira is off to Hamburg, as expected.
I’m slightly curious about Victor Gyokeres and suspicious about him not seeing the pitch in either of the first two Premier League matches. It feels like something might be up there, but it also could be nothing at all.
Andrea Berta is likely working the phones for an attacking addition. If Julian Alvarez suddenly has a change of heart (he won’t), the club would likely still do that deal. They’ll probably put in one final call to Juventus about Kenan Yildiz (who the Italian club isn’t going to sell).
