Jürgen Klopp is making all sorts of headlines this week with his reported squad selections. Some have been met with criticism, such as Denis Undav’s exclusion, while others have been celebrated, such as Leroy Sané’s exclusion. Others have been just straight surprising and seeing the latest reports, there are a few more baffling call-ups.
According to a report from Bild, Klopp will call up SC Freiburg’s Max Rosenfelder and FC Augsburg’s Hennes Behrens to the Germany squad for the first time (as captured
by @iMiaSanMia). With no disrespect to the players, they are certainly not the first talents that come to mind when most fans think of young, German defensive talents.
It certainly confirms the rumors that Klopp is set to nominate an XXL squad but raises the question of just how many players he will bring. The best manager is an informed manager, and at least he will have a showcase of all his potential options during this international break.
It might tick off some of the more usual names to have to share the spotlight with so many other players, and possibly just cause confusion with the player hierarchy, but it is an interesting idea by Klopp. The former Liverpool boss was known to be a master of player personnel so perhaps it is best to allow Klopp to cook up his unique plan for now.
