The March trade by the Miami Dolphins sending safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets is officially in the books.
With the 2026 NFL Draft weekend behind us, teams have introduced their latest rookie class to the league in hopes of having them become part of the next Super Bowl puzzle. The draft also means finalizing past trades that included future draft picks.
Let’s take a look at how the Fitzpatrick trade shook out.
Original terms of the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade to the Jets
- Dolphins receive: 2026 seventh-round pick
- Jets receive: Minkah Fitzpatrick
What did the Dolphins do with the pick from the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade?
With the No. 238 overall pick, the Dolphins selected Iowa DE Max Llewellyn.
How was Minkah Fitzpatrick’s performance for the Dolphins last season?
Fitzpatrick made five Pro Bowl appearances with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2019 to 2024, but his numbers took a slight hit in 2025. A Dolphins first-round pick out of Alabama in 2018, Fitzpatrick has been one of the better defensive backs in the NFL throughout his career. A reunion with the Dolphins seemed promising at first, but Fitzpatrick was simply not part of the team’s future plans as Miami enters a rebuild.
