Sandro Tonali’s future has moved closer to a decisive stage, with Newcastle United still waiting to see whether their £100million stance will be met this summer.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham Hotspur are finalising a £100million deal to sign Tonali from Newcastle.
The report states that personal terms have already been agreed between Spurs and the Italy international.
“Tottenham are finalizing the Sandro Tonali deal with Newcastle, breaking the £100 million mark for the player,”
Pedulla reported. “The agreement with Tonali and his entourage was reached some time ago, a step up from the £8 million plus a couple of bonuses agreed last October when he renewed his contract with”.
Tonali would reportedly earn between £12million and £13million per season if the move is completed, making him one of the central figures in Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuild at Tottenham.
Spurs have pursued Tonali throughout the window and previously saw an £80million bid rejected by Newcastle, who have held out for a fee closer to £100million.
A deal at that price would represent a huge profit for Newcastle, who signed Tonali from AC Milan for £55million in 2023.
However, losing him would also leave Eddie Howe needing another major midfield signing, especially with Bruno Guimaraes still attracting interest from Arsenal.
The situation could yet become more complicated. Reports in the last 24 hours have suggested Manchester City may join the race, even after agreeing a £116million deal for former Newcastle academy graduate Elliot Anderson.
For now, Tottenham appear closest to matching Newcastle’s valuation and turning one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas into a record-breaking deal.
