Felipe Chávez nearly decided to leave Bayern Munich in 2025. His contract was expiring on June 30, 2025, and there were strong rumors that previous club Augsburg FC were looking to get him on a free transfer. But on the same day of the expiry of his contract, former Bayern player Claudio Pizarro himself popped up on the club’s social media to announce the contract extension of his countryman Chávez.
From there, he impressed enough to make his Bundesliga debut against VFL Wolfsburg and be loaned out
to FC Köln in the Bundesliga in February, 2026. His time at the club did not go well, however, making just 7 appearances and racking just 96 minutes in total. Given he did not make it off of the bench in the last two games of Der Effzeh‘s season, the writing seemed on the wall.
And so, unsurprisingly, the Peruvian will not remain in Köln. The club’s official website confirmed this in a very short article:
Midfielder Felipe Chavez is leaving 1. FC Köln again. After a six-month loan, the club will not exercise their option to buy the 19-year-old.
There seems to be little space in the first team at Bayern for him, so he will likely go out on loan again or be sold. It would be a slightly unceremonious end to his career in Munich, considering the dramatic nature of his extension last summer.
