The Texas Rangers scored two runs but the Athletics of the West Coast scored nine runs.
The Rangers were up 2-0 with a chance to sweep an immensely sweepable series when the A’s hit like five unanswered home runs on their way to a season series-clinching blowout. Despite missing practically their four best hitters, the 54-86 Athletics clobbered the Rangers to leave them with a final taste of disgrace.
Maybe the worst team in the worst year for the American League in a historically bad division, the Athletics
joined the 53-86 Angels — also in the running for the worst team in a historically bad division — in claiming the season series against Texas. The Rangers went a combined 11-15 against two teams who have combined to lose 172 games.

Player of the Game: Ezequiel Duran led off the Rangers’ half of the first inning with a home run back when the world seemed brighter and nicer before the A’s chased Herbie off with guns and hammers.
Up Next: The Rangers go from playing the worst team in the American League, a team that just beat them by seven runs, to playing the best team in the American League so we’ll see how that goes.
