The San Francisco 49ers return to practice Wednesday after having Tuesday off. Nick Bosa, Osa Odighizuwa and Dre Greenlaw will all sit out with “general soreness.”
However, four other players with new injuries will miss Wednesday’s session:
OL Carver Willis (concussion)
FB Kyle Juszczyk (finger)
WR Jacob Cowing (hip flexor)
OL Brett Toth (undisclosed)
Cowing can’t afford to miss any practice time, as other young receivers like Junior Bergen are on his heels. Plus, with his lengthy injury history, he won’t
be afforded much grace, if any, when it comes down to final cuts. The 49ers are going to side with a player who isn’t consistently injured. Hip flexors are tricky, and it’s generally an injury that keeps a player out for a couple of weeks if it’s a mild strain.
Wide receivers Mike Evans, De’Zhaun Stribling, and Christian Kirk are still not practicing. That leaves the door open for one of the young receivers to step in and make a name for themselves.
The second-team offense has been a struggle — mainly because it’s really the 3s and 4s with all of the injuries. They take a hit with Toth and Willis sidelined.
Rookie defensive tackle Gracen Halton is back after missing a few practices with a knee bone bruise.
