Bayern Munich may have made a phenomenal comeback, beating Mainz 4-3 after being behind 3-0 in the second half.
When asked on what went wrong in the first half, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany handed a scathing report of his side, going as far as to say that everything went wrong. “What went wrong in the first half? Everything,” the Belgian said, per @iMiaSanMia. Even though the first 20 minutes before Mainz’s goal weren’t so bad.“
Further explaining the exact details, he spoke on how the first
half was slowly slipping out of their control. “We had a lot of possession but couldn’t get into their box. Then we conceded 3 and it felt like they could’ve scored 4 or 5,” said Kompany. “There was no big analysis at half time. It was just about quality and mentality. The team accepted the fight and threw away any fear of injuries that was maybe holding them back.”
Then finally speaking on the team’s celebration after the added time, he had a few things to say. “They celebrated as if it were a relegation playoff. I love that,” he said.
But this game raises a question — is it the mentality, or is the Bayern ‘second team’ simply not good enough?
