Bayern Munich managed to scrape a draw with bottom club Mainz. The Bavarians were honestly lucky enough to draw 2-2 via a Harry Kane penalty, and that’s exactly what Joshua Kimmich felt.
“We actually played
a pretty good first half. It was a matter of game management; we can’t let the lead slip away. To concede the equalizer from a set piece just before halftime was very, very annoying. That shouldn’t happen to us. That’s the only reason the second half was open. Otherwise, it would have been much easier for us. It was a tough battle. Luckily, we were able to equalize in the end. Mainz did a really good job. Nevertheless, the expectation from ourselves is to win at home,” Kimmich said (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia).
It’s true that Bayern played well for the most part, it’s just that two ill-timed lapses turned the game on its head. Regarding the set-piece thing, it’s painfully obvious that the Rekordmeister still needs to work on that.
