The NCAA 5-for-5 drama is truly never-ending, and Kentucky was briefly mentioned as a candidate for a player fighting for one more year of eligibility over the last few days, even after the 2026-27 season has already started.
College basketball icon Robbie Avila is considering schools if his previous school, Saint Louis, doesn’t have a roster spot for the 5th-year senior.
Kentucky hasn’t necessarily entertained anyone in the 5-for-5 since the Mark Mitchell thing happened, and it appears it will stay
that way even though Kentucky was mentioned for Avila. KSR’s Jack Pilgrim reported that Kentucky’s coaching staff made an early inquiry about Avila, but they are no longer pursuing him.
In addition, Avila just got an injunction that will actually allow him to stay at Saint Louis, despite the roster limit rule, and he’s now slated to play this week against, ironically, Mark Mitchell and Missouri.
Other than Kentucky kicking the tires, nothing has come of the recruitment of the legendary college basketball player. Big Blue Nation shared some thoughts on Twitter about it, with people being able to talk themselves into it, but Cream Abdul-Jabarr/Larry Blurred/Milk Chamberlain/LeBron Frames/Rob Wave/Shaquille Oatmeal/Kevin McPale will not be a Wildcat after all.
