The musical chairs at defensive back continued for the Wisconsin Badgers, as cornerback Omillio Agard announced he’s entering the transfer portal on Monday.
Agard, a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024,
was a regular contributor for Wisconsin at cornerback, rotating with senior D’Yoni Hill on the boundary last year. He played in 304 snaps over 10 games, but saw his snaps dwindle at the end of the year as Hill became the full-time starter.
With the Badgers losing their top three cornerbacks this offseason (Hill, Ricardo Hallman, Geimere Latimer), Agard was poised for a bigger role in the secondary as Wisconsin’s top cornerback in a young room. But Wisconsin added quite a bit in the transfer portal, landing Arizona State transfer Javan Robinson, Ohio State transfer Bryce West, Florida State transfer Cai Bates, and Oklahoma State transfer Eric Fletcher.
Now, some of the transfers could end up at safety for Wisconsin, but there was expected to be competition at cornerback between the incumbents and the transfers. Now, one of those incumbents is heading elsewhere.
Agard could’ve potentially played at any of the cornerback spots with his 5’11, 180-pound frame. Now, Wisconsin’s cornerback room consists of the four transfers, Cairo Skanes, Jahmare Washington, Jai’mier Scott, and the two incoming freshmen (Carsen Eloms, Donovan Dunmore).
Perhaps Wisconsin looks for another addition at cornerback. But they’re currently at nine scholarship players at the position right now, before any position changes.
