Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has experimented with using Nathaniel Brown as an attacking midfielder, but the boss will not lose sight of where Brown is at his best.
“We brought in Nene Brown as a full-back. We know he can play on the left, he can play on the right. At the moment, he’s needed a bit further forward because we don’t have Jamal (Musiala), we don’t have Serge (Gnabry), and Lenny (Karl) has just returned. There are usually logical decisions to be made, and we’re lucky that Nene can handle
that well,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
As for Brown, he just wants to be on the field.
“I just want to get my minutes in. It doesn’t really matter to me where – whether as a number 10, on the left or on the right. Of course, left-back is my preferred position, but I feel comfortable everywhere,” Brown said. “The team helps me because we simply have such outstanding players. That makes it easier to play in different positions in this team.”
Brown’s versatility should serve the team well in the coming months as it seeks to navigate a tough, condensed schedule. With many Bayern Munich players also part of their respective international teams, the flexibility to play different positions will allow the head coach to manage the roster much more effectively than he did last season.
