A swing tackle has entered the picture for the New England Patriots.
The organization signed offensive lineman James Hudson III to a one-year contract on Monday, as first reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
Hudson, 26, has appeared in 60 career games since entering the NFL in the fourth round of the 2021 draft class at No. 110 overall. The former Michigan Wolverine and Cincinnati Bearcat spent his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns before reaching a two-year pact with the New York Giants as an unrestricted
free agent last offseason. He was released prior to the start of the new league year.
A veteran of 19 starts, Hudson stands with 1,464 snaps on offense and 235 snaps on special teams. The 6-foot-5, 313-pounder has split time between left and right tackle. In addition, he has reported as eligible both at fullback and tight end through his AFC North and NFC East stops.
In Foxborough, the bookend depth behind starters Will Campbell and Morgan Moses has thinned since the calendar turned to March. Past starter Vederian Lowe exited for the San Francisco 49ers on a two-year deal, while recent sixth man Thayer Munford Jr. remains unsigned along with Yasir Durant, who was not tendered as a restricted free agent.
Hudson now checks in at a position that also includes 2025 seventh-round pick Marcus Bryant and futures signings Sebastian Gutierrez and Lorenz Metz.
