WR Ladd McConkey
When the Chargers took the field for their first of three minicamp practices this week, wideout Ladd McConkey was on the field working through drills for much longer than he had been during recent OTAs.
For much of the offseason, McConkey has been off to the side working with trainers. For the first time since May, Harbaugh spoke with the media — he went roughly 25 minutes — and he touched on several topics, including McConkey’s ailment.
Harbaugh said it “isn’t a big concern” and that McConkey was
going to participate in all individual drills Tuesday.
Following the practice where McConkey did just that, he told reporters that he tweaked his hamstring in the phase two of the offseason program but he isn’t worried about lingering. His slow ramp up this summer is on purpose. Hamstrings can linger for much longer than anyone involved wants and at this point of the offseason there is still plenty of time to slow-roll.
As of now, McConkey is confident in his plan and he expects to be 100 percent when the team reconvenes next month to begin training camp.
OT Trey Pipkins & OT/G Alex Harkey
Per The Athletic’s Daniel Popper, both Pipkins and Harkey were held out of practice on Tuesday. Each of them are reportedly “working through something” but neither were deemed serious in nature.
LB Troy Dye
Dye was not with the Chargers to begin minicamp. He was excused from the team for a personal matter.
If Dye does not rejoin the team this week, some of the younger linebackers, including Junior Colson, will get an uptick in opportunities during practice.
WR Brenen Thompson
Thompson had two of the best catches made on the first day of minicamp. He had a deep reception that went for 50+ yards followed by a contested catch that showed off his tenacity at the catch point despite being smaller in stature compared to most NFL wideouts.
However, Thompson left the field after the 7-on-7 session accompanied by a trainer. There has been no update about his ailment so we’ll stay on top of this one and update if Harbaugh reports anything new on Wednesday.
