Wednesday was a great day for all three of the past, present and future of Maryland men’s basketball.
The future? Five-star forward Baba Oladotun committed to the Terps. The present? Diggy Coit scored 41 points against Mount St. Mary’s, tied for the third most in a game in program history. The past? Derik Queen is quickly becoming an ascending star in the NBA. That continued Wednesday night with a 30-point, nine-rebound showing — both team highs — in a loss to the Denver Nuggets.
It’s the first 30-point game of Queen’s young career, and he did it in just 30 minutes, on 12-of-18 shooting. It came matched up against Nikola Jokic, the player Queen has been compared to most dating back to school.
Queen is now averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 23.1 minutes per game through 15 appearances.
