New York Post | Joel Sherman and Greg Joyce: We have known for a while that Anthony Volpe has been dealing with and playing through a shoulder injury, and he’s now undergone surgery for it. On Tuesday, Volpe reportedly got a surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The 2025 season was a rough one for him in terms of results on the field, and playing through an injury of that magnitude probably didn’t help. The expectation at this time is that Volpe will still be ready for Opening Day
in San Francisco on March 25th.
SNY | Alex Smith: Wednesday saw the release of the Gold Glove Award finalists for 2025 and two Yankees were among those up for the honor. Pitcher Max Fried and third baseman Ryan McMahon were the Yankees’ two finalists for this year. Amusingly enough, McMahon is actually up for the NL award, having spent over half the year in Colorado; he’s up against Ke’Bryan Hayes and Matt Shaw, while Fried will contend with Jacob deGrom and old friend Luis Severino. McMahon has never won one (the dazzling Hayes is probably the favorite), but Fried could win his fourth career Gold Glove after three in a row with Atlanta from 2020-22.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Having been one of the bigger name acquisitions last winter, Devin Williams’ 2025 with the Yankees was a roller coaster. He struggled for a good chunk of the season, losing the closer job on two separate occasions, before rebounding down the stretch and putting in a solid effort in the postseason. Despite the struggles and the fans making their displeasure at him known, Williams has said he would be open to remaining with the Yankees, as he prepares to begin free agency. Whether the Yankees should consider that as well is another story, but nice to hear that he wasn’t totally burned out by his struggles.
MLB Trade Rumors | Mark Polishuk: How about a small item on an old friend to close the news? Former Yankees slugger Luke Voit flamed out of the majors in 2023 with Milwaukee but he found a second wind in the NPB with the Rakuten Eagles. After arriving this June, he hit .300/.384/.498 with 13 homers in 67 games; that total actually led Rakuten in a severe dead ball year. Rakuten had clear interest in bringing him back and Voit re-signed with the Eagles for his age-35 season. Best of luck to Luke.
