Youth development in football is rarely linear or entirely predictable, and any number of setbacks can derail or permanently alter the trajectory of a promising young star. Such is the case for Liverpool’s cultured defensive midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who was seen as the future in midfield back in the 2022-23 season.
Then, the 18-year-old was just breaking into the first team, and with 19 appearances that season the hope and hype was sky high. Late in that season, though, he suffered an adductor
injury. What followed were three seasons of new injuries, of setbacks recovering from existing injuries, and failed loan spells for Bajcetic.
Over the past three seasons, Bajcetic has played 36 games and failed to establish himself as a clear first choice option with Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga and Las Palmas in La Liga. Now, according to club-connected journalist David Lynch, the Reds are said to be open to a permanent sale for him this summer.
If there aren’t any suitable permanent options on the table this summer—and after his past three difficult seasons it would honestly be a surprise to us if there were—Bajcetic is said to have been encouraged to look for a loan destination that would make a suitable permanent home if his time there on loan is a success.
