Week 6 is in the book in the National Football League and I have to ask – who’s actually good in this league? We got some real head scratchers this week. Let’s dive in!
Sam LaPorta and Jack Campbell
LaPorta
is probably the highlight in another quiet week in the NFL for former Hawks. LaPorta finished Detroit’s 30-17 loss in Kansas City with 5 receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown early in the fourth quarter for Detroit’s last score of the night. It was a doozy of a catch, hauling it in with one hand. It temporarily broke Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth.
Campbell had another good game for the Lions defense, finishing with 8 tackles and a sack.
Noah Fant and Lukas Van Ness
Fant had a quiet game in Green Bay, hauling in 4 catches for 27 yards His line every week is basically a copy and paste for yards, catches, and touchdowns.
Van Ness has having a nice game – 2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss – but then this update hit my phone:
NOOOOOOO! Fortunately, Matt LaFleur says the Packers “avoided something serious” with this injury, but they don’t know how long Van Ness will be out.
Dane Belton and Cooper DeJean
What’s going on here? Philly loses to Denver at home. Ok, fine. Not great but Denver’s also now 4-2 after their snoozefest 13-11 win in London (6 tackles and a TFL for Riley Moss). But a loss to New York as well? The New York Giants? Woof.
DeJean finished this game with 2 tackles, while Belton had 7 (!) and a pass defended as the Giants notched their second win of the year and won by 17 over the defending champs. The NFL is WEIRD.
Anthony Nelson, Kaevon Merriweather, and Sebastian Castro
Castro! He’s in the show! Great stuff for Castro, as he’s now active and recorded a tackle in Sunday’s 30-19 win over the banged up 49ers. Merriweather also recorded a tackle, while Nelson had 4 and a quarterback hit as the Bucs are now tied with the Colts for the best record in the league at 5-1.
Tory Taylor
Let’s finish with Taylor. Our favorite Aussie has punted a lot in Chicago. A lot. But Monday night? Just 2 punts for 106 yards. Progress? Also this, on Chicago’s game-winning field goal.
