WrestleDream will feature a new match concept in the main event. Will Ospreay defends the AEW World Championship in Clockwork Carnage. Eight men enter, phase one is elimination, phase two is a scoring period. The man with the most points when time expires is the winner. AEW is stacking Clockwork Carnage with even more champions.
Three men have qualified for Clockwork Carnage. Will Ospreay retained the world title against Kazuchika Okada, Samoa Joe punished Jack Perry, and “Speedball” Mike Bailey was
a karate man to knock Lee Moriarty silly. That leaves five spots open for the PPV bout on October 17.
AEW announced the rest of the qualifier matches for Dynamite on October 14, and that’s where the extra champions come into play. Commentary explained that champions expressed interest to Tony Khan about competing in the Clockwork Carnage match, so he wants them to put up the same risk that Ospreay did when defending the world title in his qualifier. That means there will be two title bouts in the qualifying round.
The remaining qualifiers on Dynamite include:
- TNT Championship: Darby Allin (c) vs. Hechicero
- AEW International Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Myron Reed
- Brian Cage vs. Konosuke Takeshita
- Adam Copeland vs. Josh Alexander
- Ricochet vs. Ace Austin (Ace is replacing the injured “Switchblade” Jay White)
To be clear, these extra championships are only up for grabs in the qualifier bouts. Clockwork Carnage is all about the AEW World Championship.
Based on star power, I think it’s safe to assume that Allin, Okada, Takeshita, and Ricochet will advance to WrestleDream. If the qualifier is a fair fight, Copeland should advance as well. If the Callis Family runs wild with interference, then I can see Alexander moving forward.
If the results play out that way, then the Clockwork Carnage field is stacked. That is real tough to predict who will be eliminated in the first phase. In the second phase, all these stars will be eating pins to tally on the scoreboard.
Clockwork Carnage should be very interesting.
Do you anticipate any upsets in the remaining qualifier bouts? Who do you think would get eliminated in phase one of Clockwork Carnage? Which wrestlers do you want to see in phase two?
