Eagles Question of the Day:
If you’re the Eagles, are you paying both Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter this offseason? And then probably letting Moro Ojomo walk next year? Or would you handle it differently? Head over to The Feed and weigh
in with your answer and explanation!
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Eagles’ breakout star on extension talks: ‘I’m always scratching’ – NJ.com
“I’m not doing this for just selfish reasons,” Jordan Davis said last week about earning a new contract. “I’m doing this because I want to be the best player I can be. Genuinely, I love this team, I love this program. They gave me an opportunity, they believed in me when nobody did. And it was my duty to be the best player I could be. … This is not the best that I have been. This is not the best that I can be. So I’m always scratching, I’m always clawing for that. The ceiling is the only thing that you can place upon yourself.”
Mekhi Becton reportedly expected to be released: Should the Eagles have interest in a reunion? – BGN
There’s a common belief that the 2025 Eagles missed the 2024 version of Becton, especially when it came to Philly’s ability to run the ball. While there’s no doubt that Becton made some really nice plays as a run blocker during Philly’s Super Bowl LIX-winning season, it’s hardly like his replacement was a total liability. The perception is that Steen was worse as a run blocker but better in pass protection. But here’s what the Pro Football Focus grading (grain of salt) looks like. […] I don’t get the sense that the Eagles are itching to replace Steen — who is now eligible for an extension as he enters the final year of his rookie contract — with Becton. Especially after Becton had a down 2025 where he got benched at one point and ranked 83rd out of 85 guards graded by PFF (84th in run blocking and 75th in pass blocking).
More on the Coaching Situation – Iggles Blitz
That is two candidates the Eagles talked to who have taken other jobs. Some see this the candidates rejecting the Eagles. That’s not necessarily true. Teams are going to talk to candidates they are curious about. That doesn’t mean they’ll end up liking that coach and wanting to hire him. I had concerns about Slowik. I wasn’t sure he was enough of a problem solver. He runs a good scheme and has some good ideas. Think back to his Texans tenure. He wasn’t able to come up with solutions when defenses got the best of that OL. Does that sound like a familiar problem? I find Smith to be an interesting coach. He’s creative and runs some interesting stuff. But he never had a top passing game. Also, he seems to love TEs so that would scare me with the Eagles lack of good TEs.
Roob’s Random Observations: Some coaching candidates the Eagles should consider – NBCSP
What if A.J. Brown isn’t here? Then what? Should Howie Roseman go get a wide receiver in the first round? It looks like a good WR draft, although the top four or five guys will be gone if the Eagles stay at No. 23. But there should be good options at 23, including Washington’s Denzel Boston, Georgia’s Zachariah Branch and Tennessee’s Chris Brazzell II. The Eagles haven’t drafted a WR in the first four rounds of the last four drafts, since DeVonta Smith in 2021. So they’re due. There aren’t a ton of realistic options in free agency, although Nick Sirianni favorite Keenan Allen is due to hit the market. But he’s 32 and not the player he was in his first go-round with the Chargers. It would be fun to snag George Pickens from the Cowboys after they poached Christian Parker as their defensive coordinator. But the Cowboys aren’t going to let Pickens go after the year he had. In-house? The Eagles like Darius Cooper, and he’s got a high ceiling, but it would be foolish to think he can step in next year and be a legit WR2. Quez Watkins is still around, but his one good season was back in 2021, and it’s hard to imagine him contributing at this point. So drafting a guy might be the best remaining option. The problem with drafting a WR is you hate to see Brown force you away from taking what you really need at 23, which is an outside corner or an edge. But here we are. The hope is the Eagles can make it work with A.J., and maybe once the new offensive coordinator sits down with him and assures him he’s going to be a focal point of the offense he’ll warm up to the idea of staying with the team where he’s had his best seasons. But it sure seems like things aren’t heading that way.
The non-traditional reason the Cowboys hiring of Christian Parker is a hit – Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys made a decision on Thursday afternoon and went with Christian Parker to be their new defensive coordinator. Let’s stipulate at the very beginning that this move may fail. It is possible, the laws of probability suggest it is even probable, that someday in the future we are lamenting that the Cowboys chose Parker through the benefit of hindsight. Many Cowboys fans were excited about the Matt Eberflus hire a year ago. Given his previous stint with the team, the thought was that it would translate (although no one anticipated a trade that would dramatically change the fabric of his defense). Hindsight is indeed a valuable tool. As possible/probable as it is that Parker flames out with the Cowboys though, I am declaring right now that I will not feel that way. I can’t for one reason.
Washington Commanders Coaching Search Tracker: Steelers DC interviewed – Hogs Haven
Teryl Austin interviewed. The Washington Commanders reportedly prefer to hire a coach with play calling experience as their next defensive coordinator and they’ve added a new name to the list. The Steelers are searching for a new head coach after Mike Tomlin stepped down. His defensive coordinator Teryl Austin has interviewed to be Washington’s next DC.
How will the NY Giants’ spend money in the John Harbaugh era? – Big Blue View
Thus I’d expect Harbaugh to lobby strongly with Schoen (and ownership since he will report directly to them) to start using void years more regularly to fill holes on the roster. Jaxson Dart needs a WR2. The defense doesn’t just need a good coordinator, it needs a good run-defending IDL, at least one off-ball linebacker if not two, and at the least depth, if not starters, in the secondary. We might expect a couple of those needs to be filled with the Giants’ first and second round draft picks, but they have no third round pick, and any player chosen on Day 3 should not be counted on to start as a rookie. Again, the use of void years to make signing more or better free agents possible implies additional cash spending in the current year, so depending on how many bottles of Silver Oak Cabernet were consumed at Elia Mediterranean last weekend, Harbaugh may or may not have gotten a commitment from ownership to spend more.
Dolphins promote Bobby Slowik to offensive coordinator – The Phinsider
The Miami Dolphins have a new offensive coordinator. Bobby Slowik, who previously held the title of senior passing game coordinator with the Dolphins in 2025, has been promoted to the team’s offensive coordinator position, per Ian Rapoport on X.
Steelers hire Mike McCarthy as next head coach – Behind The Steel Curtain
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new head coach. After Mike Tomlin stepped down following a 19-season tenure, the Steelers are hiring former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy as their next head coach, per Adam Schefter.
NFL coaching hire grades for every team involved in 2026 cycle – SB Nation
Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike McCarthy. Similar to the Jesse Minter move, this is a homecoming for Mike McCarthy. McCarthy grew up in the area, and now gets a chance to coach the team he rooted for when he was younger. McCarthy becomes just the fifth head coach of the Steelers since 1969, when the organization hired Chuck Noll. Since then Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin were their only two other coaches, until today. The biggest question will be the quarterback position. Does this open the door to a return for Aaron Rodgers? When Tomlin stepped down the immediate thought was that the door was closed, but now a could a reunion be in the works?
