The Yankees don’t have their backs to the walls just yet, but it’s darn near close after losing Game 1 of the ALDS. They desperately want to avoid going home to the Bronx facing an 0-2 hole, especially with their ace Cam Schlittler toeing the slab tonight. Schlittler dazzled in his Game 1 start against Boston, going 6.1 shutout with 10 strikeouts to continue his dominance over the team’s archrivals. Schlittler had one of the best starts in recent postseason memory to start last year’s postseason,
but his follow-up against Toronto wasn’t nearly as sharp and he’ll look to avoid repeating that pattern this time around against Tampa Bay.
We’ve got plenty to go through before we get to Game 2, starting with Josh musing on Schlittler’s arsenal choice ahead of his start after he mixed in far more curveballs than usual against Boston. John takes us back to class with a history lesson on how the league first hammered out a deal to sell the film rights to record the 1911 World Series, Jonathan remembers one-time Yankee Aaron Guiel and his unlikely road to the majors on his birthday, Michael compares the paths of two of the more veteran GMs across baseball in Brian Cashman and Dave Dombrowski, and later on I’ll be back to open up the mailbag for another week of your questions.
