The first major injury news of Jacksonville Jaguars training camp comes by way of foot surgery for newly-signed running back Chris Rodriguez Jr.
According to a report originally from the Florida Times-Union, Rodriguez had a procedure on his left foot to fix an injury suffered during the team’s offseason program. The recovery is not expected to hold out Rodriguez for the start of training camp which begins in late July according to head coach Liam Coen, who said the back would be “full go” come training camp.
The former Washington Commander signed a two-year deal with Jacksonville this offseason after the departure of long-time running back Travis Etienne Jr. to the New Orleans Saints. He joined the running back room in Duval County alongside second-year players Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen and veteran Ameer Abdullah.
According to the Times-Union source, Rodriguez had been rehabbing his foot injury already with the team and is not expected to have any restrictions in the future.
The former Kentucky back was a none too surprising signing for the Jags as he played one season in Lexington with head coach Liam Coen, when Coen was the offensive coordinator for Big Blue Nation in 2021.
Rodriguez rushed for over 3,000 yards with the Wildcats over five seasons, including 1,379 under Coen, before being selected in the sixth round by the Commanders in 2023. While in Washington, he amassed 920 yards on the ground over three years including 500 last year. He rushed for 10 combined touchdowns while fumbling just once on 198 carries.
