Bayern Munich struggled early on against FC Köln. That much was clear, as set piece after set piece rained down on deputizing goalkeeper Jonas Urbig’s goal and the youngster had to make multiple saves.
Just after that first 30 minutes Der Effzeh took the lead, only for Bayern to react. Seven minutes after Köln’s opener, the Bavarians had turned the game around and lead 2-1. Of course, Harry Kane was crucial to that, netting an unbelievable shot by swiveling and hitting the ball into the top corner from an impossible angle with his weak foot.
“The first 30 minutes weren’t easy. We had chances to take the lead then, too. Then they scored. But the reaction was very good. It was very important that we took control before halftime,” the England captain explained, as captured by Bayern’s official website. “In the second half, we implemented our style more effectively. As they tired, spaces opened up which we exploited. We’re in a good moment; we need to maintain that feeling and carry on with the winning mentality.”
Of course, Kane was part of that improved second half, netting a second to give Bayern some breathing space. Despite the difficulties, Bayern move on to the next challenge having contested a perfect season thus far.
Bayern Munich traveled to Cologne for a midweek DFB-Pokal tilt with FC Köln.
Heading into the match, the Bavarians were riding high, but the squad knew that FC Köln would not be an easy out in front of its home crowd. Ultimately, Bayern Munich pulled out a 4-1 victory doing exactly what they have done to every other opponent it has had of late — wear them down and pounce.
