The Syracuse Orange (15-13, 6-9) are back in action tomorrow for a meeting with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (14-14, 5-10). It’s been a disappointing season for both squads but Steve Forbes has been given a “vote of confidence” by his AD while we all wonder what Syracuse will do
Tip-off is at 5:45 p.m. EST on The CW and here’s what we’re predicting:
Kevin: Wake Forest 68, Syracuse 66
Both teams entered the season with NCAA hopes that have flamed out. Both lost at BC. Neither one inspires any confidence,
but Juke Harris has been the best player and with Wake at home I think they sneak out a close victory here. I’d be shocked if this game is decided by more than 5 points, so late-game execution will be crucial.
Dom: Syracuse 76, Wake Forest 71
I would be more scared of the Demon Deacons, but they’re only 10-6 at home and this is easily one of the most inconsistent teams in the entire ACC. Agree with Kevin: neither team is exactly bathing themself in glory right now. Harris is a legit scorer and could easily go for 30. If Syracuse can get stops elsewhere, it should be able to match WF’s offense. Turnovers will also be key: Wake forces a ton and doesn’t cough up the ball that much on this end. In the end, Freeman leads the way and Syracuse gets enough stops to pull off a late-season road victory.
Max: Syracuse 74, Wake Forest 72
At the beginning of the season, you could have convinced me that this one would have massive bubble implications. Alas, here we are with two teams that have become mere afterthoughts. That being said, I think a week off is just what the doctor ordered for the Orange, and after seeing the Demon Deacons collapse against Boston College, maybe not playing is better after all. I have no doubt that SU will win the battle on the boards, which should be just enough to squeak out the win.
