Frenkie de Jong is making progress with his recovery from a knee injury and is now working with the ball at Barcelona, according to the latest updates.
The Dutch midfielder has not played a single minute for Hansi Flick’s side this season, but the hope is that a return is not too far away now.
Hansi Flick has previously hinted that Barcelona are hoping De Jong could be available after the current international break, with the team’s next fixture against Getafe on October 10th.
Yet it seems that is optimistic
at best. According to Marca and Sport, Barcelona are currently hoping that De Jong can return to full training next month but are being super cautious so as to avoid any kind of relapse.
The plan is for him to return “gradually” due to the length of time he has missed and the need to build up match fitness. The fact that Barca are blessed with quality midfield options also means that Barca can afford to be patient with De Jong’s recovery.
De Jong will be assessed once again after the international break which is when the club hope they can finally pencil in a return date for the Netherlands international.
