Buried under the countless moves that the San Francisco Giants have made this week is the fact that the team released a whole bunch of injury updates on Tuesday.
Most notably, Matt Chapman had an MRI that revealed a core muscle injury, and is meeting with a specialist next week. Surgery is on the table, and it looks like his season could be over.
Victor Bericoto, who will likely be the primary replacement for Heliot Ramos when healthy, began a rehab assignment in AAA on Wednesday.
Speaking of Wednesday,
the new guy, Marcelo Mayer, reported to the team on Wednesday and will have an evaluation. No word yet on how that went.
Jesús Rodríguez has been resting and rehabbing his elbow at home, and will be re-evaluated at the end of the week.
Joel Peguero threw a live batting practice on Tuesday. It’s possible that he returns before the season ends.
Jose Buttó is still only throwing on flat ground, but is throwing up to 120 feet. Doesn’t seem as likely that he pitches again this year.
Matt Gage is also throwing on flat ground, and is now throwing up to 60 feet. It looks like he successfully avoided surgery, which is huge.
And, of course, Trevor McDonald and Casey Schmitt are out for the year. McDonald underwent his Tommy John surgery earlier this week.
