AEW Dynamite airs tonight (Feb. 11) with a live show from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. This is the seventh episode of Dynamite during the 11 week build to Revolution, which takes place on March 15.
It looks like Tony Khan has a big surprise planned for AEW Dynamite
The Young Bucks are babyfaces once again in AEW, which means their tassels and Superkick Parties are back in full force. Matt and Nick Jackson have put the entire tag team division on notice, and they have a chance tonight on Dynamite to earn a future shot at FTR’s AEW world tag team championship.
The Bucks are booked tonight in a 3-way number one contender’s tag match against The Razcals and a Wild Card team. The match would be pretty interesting even if there was no third team in the mix, as The Razcals just recently debuted in AEW and we still don’t know how hard Tony Khan is planning to push them right out of the gate. However, it’s the addition of the Wild Card team that really opens the door for a big surprise in AEW.
There has been some obvious speculation about the mystery team being the return of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, who have an obvious feud lined up with FTR whenever they are back on AEW programming. The main argument against it being the right time for Copeland and Christian to return is that Dynamite takes place near the Bucks’ hometown, and it’s unconventional booking for another babyface duo to come in and wipe the floor with Matt and Nick on their own home turf.
So if it’s not Cope and Cage, then who else might be the Wild Card team in AEW? Tony Khan says he’s always carefully keeping an eye on the free agent market, but this certainly doesn’t look like a good fit for the debut of The IInspiration. What if instead of a big free agent surprise, Khan goes above and beyond that by bringing back the greatest tag team of all-time, The Butcher & The Blade? I think everybody would understand if the biggest ratings draw in pro wrestling beats the Bucks in their hometown en route to an AEW tag team championship match against Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler at Revolution.
What does Tony Khan have planned for the big reveal of AEW’s wild card mystery team tonight? Tune into Dynamite to find out.
The rest of the card
AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander defends the belt tonight against Thekla in a Strap Match. It’s hard to think of the last time there was a women’s strap match in a major wrestling promotion in the USA. Per F4WOnline, Stat recently responded to criticism of excessive bloodshed in the women’s Blood & Guts match by telling Denise Salcedo that, “women bleed once a month anyway. So, it’s kind of an unfair criticism. We don’t have a choice, really, so to choose where we get to bleed from for once, I think that is more power to the girlies.” Does she have a similar analogy in mind for excessive violence in a Strap Match?
TNT Champion Tommaso Ciampa defends the belt tonight against Kyle Fletcher. Something needs to happen here that gets the Australian-born Fletcher added to this Saturday’s (Feb. 14) Grand Slam Australia card. This suggests a title change is on the table, even though Ciampa’s reign with Silvy has only just begun. Could a time limit draw serve the same purpose? Or will AEW International Champion Kazuchika Okada accidentally screw Kyle over again when some of the Don Callis Family’s 213 members inevitably show up to interfere?
Finally, Kenny Omega and Swerve Strickland will have a face-to-face confrontation tonight, after both men were eliminated from AEW world title contention by the company’s newest main event star, Andrade El Idolo. Are Swerve and Omega headed towards a one-on-one match against each other at AEW Revolution, or will Omega miss the upcoming PPV because he’s too busy playing Street Fighter 6 in Japan?
Other stuff to keep an eye on
– “Timeless” Toni Storm and Orange Cassidy have some regrets about booking themselves in a Hair vs. Hair match this weekend at Grand Slam Australia against Marina Shafir and Wheeler Yuta of the Death Riders. Will AEW National Champion Ricochet give any tips tonight on how to make the bald look work for them? Is some low card wrestler on the AEW roster getting their hair cut tonight as a preview of what will happen in Australia? Does Luther realize how hideous he looks without any hair?
– AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley is scheduled to defend the belt at Grand Slam Australia against Konosuke Takeshita. Nobody is allowed to interfere in that match due to the Continental title rules, so don’t be surprised if chaotic gang violence instead breaks out tonight between the Callis Family and the Death Riders.
– AEW World Champion MJF was squashed by Brody King last week, and therefore has to defend the belt against him at Grand Slam Australia. Will those very loud “Fuck ICE” chants be back tonight when Brody and MJF presumably have some kind of go home promo segment to hype up Saturday’s title match?
– Speaking of the world champ, Hangman Page and Andrade will do battle at Grand Slam Australia to see who gets to challenge MJF (or Brody King) for the world title at Revolution. Andrade fought Gabe Kidd earlier today in Japan, which is bad news for the ladies at ringside tonight who were hoping to flirt with the latino playboy. Will Hangman get ready for the match by wearing his Horse Cock merchandise?
– The Babes of Wrath have their biggest test to date as AEW women’s world tag team champions when they defend the gold at Grand Slam Australia against MegaBad. Before Penelope Ford returned to AEW, she was the obvious weak link on her team and the fall person whenever she and Megan Bayne lost. Has anything changed now that Ford is back from injury?
– The AEW commentators didn’t seem all that concerned after Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors abducted Darby Allin and left him for dead in a body bag in a desert last week. Is it safe to assume that Sting shows up off camera to save Darby’s life every time he gets into one of these sticky situations?
– Now that Samoa Joe is out injured, HOOK says he’s the new leader of The Opps. I don’t think this leadership change bodes well for the future of The Opps, so hopefully Joe will be back soon to reclaim his spot.
– Where the f*** are Chris Jericho, Britt Baker, Keith Lee, Hikaru Shida, Danhausen, Nyla Rose, and Private Party?
What will you be looking for on Dynamite?
