Heading into AEW’s newest PPV, the show’s existence was questioned quite a bit. The concern was the promotion didn’t need this new event, Redemption, to tell its big stories heading into their big return to Wembley Stadium next month for All In, and that booking the show could even screw up those plans.
We’ll see as the night goes on. But we can tell you the paid portion of Redemption opened with a typically fun, typically bonkers AEW multi-person hardcore match. In this case, it was a six-man ladder
match for a shot at the International title currently held by Kyle Fletcher.
The entrants were high-fliers and/or luchadors, so… yeah. Nuts.
Redemption was in Montreal, where Speedball Mike Bailey is from. He took things to the next level with an on-stage ladder spot…
Jungle Jack Perry answered that with a mirror version of it, but Nick Wayne did more damage to Speedball…
… and after Perry introduced some tables, El Clon really seemed to have polished off Bailey…
… and just watch what Komander did to Wayne…
… The Beast Mortos sold a knee injury during the middle portion of the match, but was quite popular for mixing power into the high-flying…
… Mother Wayne’s boy recovered to get revenge on Hologram’s evil twin…
But when he tried to use that opening to retrieve the contract for an International title hanging above the ring, Perry recovered to get payback on the prodigy…
With those two down and Mortos recovering, the Quebecois star maybe could have climbed and earned a shot at tonight’s match between current International champ Kyle Fletcher and Bandido later tonight. But he decided to makes sure The Beast was out of commission before he did.
And with the Ultima Weapon, Montreal cheered for their own, a two-time AEW Trios champ who will now try for his first singles gold.
