It has definitely been a less exciting post-season this year. In 2025, through the wild-card and division series, there were five which went to the final game – three of the four wild-card games, and a pair of divisional match-up. This will only be the second such so far in 2026, following the Braves-Phillies wild-card series. I guess it’s still better than the 2023 postseason, where there were no “win or go home” games for both sides, until the Championship Series, which both went the full seven.
Two such series is the low count under the current format, happening in both 2022 + 2023, as well as this one to date.
So, enjoy this one. We’ll see if the random mix of pitching – today, anchored by Sean Burke – which the White Sox have been throwing at opponents so far, continues to do the trick. Both sides have seen their bullpens taxed quite hard in the series, so it could simply be a case of which starter goes deeper.
