There are always powerhouse nations that dominate the conversation before a World Cup, but this upcoming tournament feels especially loaded with storylines. Beyond Germany, there are several teams that feel must-watch because of their talent, identity, or sheer entertainment value.
Spain might be the most fascinating team in world football right now. The blend of youth and technical quality is absurd, and the style remains unmistakably Spanish. Even after years of dominance in the late 2000s and early
2010s, Spain has reinvented itself with a younger, more direct group that still controls possession at an elite level. Watching players like Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and others operate together makes every match feel like a showcase of football’s future. Spain also feels like a team capable of completely overwhelming opponents once momentum starts building.
England always enters a World Cup carrying enormous pressure, but this current generation might be the deepest and most balanced England squad in decades. Jude Bellingham has become one of the faces of world football, while players like Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, and Harry Kane give England world-class options across the pitch. The intrigue with England is never talent — it is whether the team can finally put everything together when the stakes rise. That tension alone makes every England match compelling. Is this the year that the Three Lions finally get it done?
France remains terrifying. Even with constant roster turnover, the talent pipeline never seems to stop. Kylian Mbappé and Michael Olise (among others) makes France appointment exciting, but the frightening part is how much depth exists around him. France combines athleticism, pace, physicality, and technical brilliance as well as any national team in the world. There is also something about France in tournament settings that feels inevitable; they always look capable of reaching the final no matter the circumstances.
Argentina brings a different kind of emotion. Even after finally winning the World Cup, Argentina still feels driven by the same intensity and edge that made them champions. The pressure surrounding Lionel Messi may be reduced now, but the passion around the national team remains unmatched. Argentina games rarely feel calm — every challenge, goal, and controversial moment seems amplified. That emotional energy makes them one of the most entertaining countries to watch in any tournament.
Norway is the wildcard team that could become everyone’s favorite neutral pick. Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard give Norway genuine star power, and simply seeing Norway back on the World Cup stage would be exciting. The question is whether the supporting cast can elevate the team enough to compete with elite nations. Norway feels like the type of country that could either crash out early or suddenly become a Cinderella story that captures global attention.
Then there is Brazil — the nation that almost feels synonymous with the World Cup itself. Even in tournaments where Brazil falls short, the expectation, flair, and pressure surrounding the Seleção remain unmatched. Brazil always produces moments that define tournaments, whether it is brilliant attacking football, unforgettable goals, or crushing drama. Watching Brazil at a World Cup simply feels different, and that probably will never change.
