If your offense is 28th in MLB, eventually, you’ll pay the price for it and the final notice of payment due came for the Guardians in their 4-2 loss to the Mariners yesterday. It’s a bummer, and I don’t know what else to say. If I’d known we were casting feelings into words, I’d have memorized the Song of Solomon.
Yes, sure, there were other things besides the hitting to be frustrated about. Tanner Bibee had a great start but absolutely cannot walk Cole Young on 5 pitches in the 7th. The umpires missed
a strike three from Matt Festa and then New York failed to overturn a blown call at first base. But, none of that really matter because the Guardians had two hits and two runs. Jose is still in a few week slump here, so, unless Nolan Jones is doing his best resurrection act on a daily basis and Kyle Manzardo is hitting home runs on the daily, there just isn’t enough juice in this group of hitters to stage a miraculous comeback to get back in a wildcard race. Ah well, they won the series. Nicole had your recap yesterday in case you missed it. You know I don’t like to think about days of no Guardians’ baseball, but I have started to think about whether I should start.
Today is the day you can listen to the first episode of Caught Lookin’, the Guardians baseball podcast all women-led.
The rumors are all around the internet that the Guardians are calling George Valera up today as their 14th position player. Some say Cleveland Guardians Prospective on Twitter had it first, but, if you follow our comments, you’ll know that user jhon_ called it early last week. Pays to read the comments, folks. Props, jhon_. Hopefully, Valera will get some steady AB’s in right field and DH to give him a chance to show something, or not, in this lost season. But, of course, I was excited about Nolan Jones being re-acquired, so maybe don’t listen to me. If I was a horse, I’d be down on my fetlocks praying I don’t bet on me.
Carlos Santana is now with the Cubs. Good for Carlos Santana but I can’t say I want to see him win a World Series with the Cubs. I’m not just some schnook likes to get slapped around.
MLB and the Guardians made official that the paid, administrative leave for Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz has been extended with no fixed end-date in sight. I have no idea what this means other than nobody knows anybody. Not that well.
The Guardians open a series with Boston today, Labor Day, so enjoy it as a fairly stress-free experience. After that, well, we’ll go out to Miller’s Crossing… and we’ll see who’s smart.
