Nick Robertson has often found his name in the trade rumors and has finally been sent away from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Penguins got the other Robertson brother for a future fourth round pick.
Adding Robertson crowds an already crowded group of fringe area forwards for next season, which much like yesterday’s trade of Parker Wotherspoon could be indicative of future moves to come for the Pens.
Robertson, younger brother of possible trade target Jason, has been an effective NHL finisher in recent years, scoring 14, 15, and 16 goals over the last three seasons with the Maple Leafs in extremely limited minutes. N. Robertson was drafted by Kyle Dubas and developed the first few years under his eye, making for a player that the current Pens’ management surely will know what to expect out of.
A fourth round pick is about the minimum that an NHL caliber player will usually get traded for, presenting a very low cost for the Pens to pickup what’s been a productive forward. The Pens grabbed Hendrix Lapierre from the Capitals last week for a future third (plus fifth) round selections.
