Cam Skattebo on Thursday put to bed the social media-created idea that there is a rift between the running back and New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh.
“There’s that video going around of me and Harbaugh on the sidelines of ”not liking” what I said or whatever,“ Skattebo acknowledged during an appearance on ‘Up & Adams’ with Kay Adams. “I think the conversation was just less of a happy, joking conversation. It was just kind of a more serious conversation. It wasn’t nothing negative or nothing positive.
There was just no emotion that needed to be shown.”
Skattebo went on to explain that the conversation was about whether it was “more messed up” to knee the ball at the opponent’s 1-yard line or to go ahead and score. The Giants had quarterback Jake Haener take a knee to end their 23-6 preseason victory over the New York Jets.
Skattebo said Harbaugh is “awesome.”
“He’s just tough, man. He’s keeping the way you need to coach football in football,” Skattebo said. “A lot of the guys they get all this money and they get older and they don’t want to go out and practice hard and be in full pads every day.
“He’s brought this culture where we’re gonna practice, we’re gonna practice for every minute that we’re allowed to … and we’re gonna do it in pads as much as we possibly can because that’s how football is played.
“I really enjoy that.”
Adams asked Skattebo about Harbaugh’s “infectious disease” comment after Skattebo got into a practice skirmish with defensive teammates.
“Me and Harbs, we’re on the same page. We love each other. We’re awesome,” Skattebo said. “Me and him talk every single day. There’s no bad blood between us.”
Skattebo said the remark was meant to illustrate that “what I did was infectious, an infectious disease, in that moment. Not that I’m an infectious disease person … I don’t think it was anything that was a big deal.”
