The minor league season is winding down, which means the number of games left to make an impression on the big league organization is dwindling.
Buffalo 10, Lehigh Valley 2
Alan Rangel, yeesh.
Having to kind of wear one for the bullpen, Rangel let up nine runs in 3 innings to salt away the game. He only struck out one and generally wasn’t very good. It’s been that kind of season for Rangel, where he has a few games where he looks like decent depth, fooling the major league organization, then comes back
to earth hard. At least Rafael Marchan had two hits as he continues his rehab stint there.
Reading 10, Portland 3
Portland was certainly glad it was only six innings as the Fightin’ Phils offense put up some runs on the day. Carson DeMartini had two hits, a double and a triple, to go with three RBI to lead the group, which also included Bryan Rincon having two hits on top of the lineup and scoring three runs. He truly has had a solid season for Reading, boosting his prospect profile back to being something the team could use in the future. Maybe he’s not a starter, but as a solid bench piece, the team could use a player like that.
Hudson Valley 5, Jersey Shore 4
In the entirety of the Phillies minor league organization yesterday, there was only one home run hit. TJayy Walton was the one who hit it for the Blue Claws.
His first High-A home run? Well done, young man.
It was the highlight of the day for the Blue Claws as they could not overcome a Brady Beckel start in which he allowed four runs over his allotted four innings of work. Griffin Burkholder scored two runs after getting on via a hit and two walks. Juan Villavicencio continued his struggles at the new level, going 0 for 4 and seeing his average drop at that level to .198.
Clearwater/Dunedin – rained out
Bummer.
