Bayern Munich let a couple of points slip in the second matchday of the Bundesliga against compact and well-organized Schalke 04 squad.
The Rekordmeister showed a lackluster performance in the attacking front, which could be attributed to the fact it started the game without key players Michael Olise and Harry Kane. They would come on at around the 60th minute mark, completely changing the face of Bayern’s attack, which by then had only had Luis Díaz from the starter attacking trio. The Colombian
had a dismal performance, and the team surely missed its two attacking powerhouses.
Fans quickly started to question coach Vincent Kompany’s decision to make such a rotation this early in the season. However, in the post-game conference, Kompany made sure to explain his rationale behind such decision (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “That was simply a rational decision. They came back very, very late from vacation. The game against Osnabrück cost them a lot of energy. The priority was to have them available for that because it was a Pokal game. And then I had to make a decision for today. They’re still not in the right condition to be under full workload. It was a rational decision.”
Well, only the coach knows how fit his players are, and although this cost the team two valuable points, it’s still early in the season, and the coach will surely face more instances of difficult decisions regarding squad rotation.
