Fresh off a blowout loss in the Florida heat, the New England Patriots will return to more friendly playing conditions in Week 4. A trip to Buffalo for an AFC East showdown with the Bills awaits head coach Mike Vrabel’s team this weekend.
While the weather in Western New York can be a challenging, especially later in the year, Sunday’s game should not be impacted in any significant way.
According to NFL Weather, temperatures will hover around 63 or 64°F. While the skies will be mostly cloudy, the chance
of precipitation is below 50% and decreasing as the game goes on. There will be wind gusts of up 16 mph, but if they will actually impact the passing and kicking game remains to be seen.
The National Weather Service shares a similar projection. According to its models, conditions will be “mostly sunny, with a high near 67” as well as a “southeast wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.”
If the projected conditions hold, this week’s game between the two rivals will be among the warmest Patriots-Bills meetings of the last decade. Only one of them — the Week 5 showdown last season won 23-20 by the visiting New England side — had a kickoff temperature above 65°F.
This week’s kickoff between the Patriots and Bills is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. ET, at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY.
