On Tuesday evening, the BC men’s basketball team will host the Hampton Pirates at Conte Forum, the third home game of the season for the Eagles. Coming off of a devastatingly disappointing loss to Central
Connecticut, followed by a close road victory over Temple, the team is already putting fans on an emotional roller coaster this season. Here’s what to expect.
Who: Boston College Eagles (2-2) vs Hampton Pirates (2-3)
Where: Conte Forum, Chestnut Hill, MA
When: Tuesday November 18th, 2025
Tip-Off Time: 7pm ET
How to Watch: This game will be streamed live on ACCNX here
Hampton has been playing in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) since 2022, but really didn’t have their first successful year in the conference until last season. When head coach Ivan Thomas took over the program in the fall of 2024, the team immediately improved to a 17-16 record overall (8-10 in conference) after years of lurking in the basement. They eventually lost in the CAA tournament quarterfinals, but it was still a marked improvement from their 8, 9, and 11 win seasons that preceded it.
Coming back from that team this season is 6’5” sophomore guard Daniel Johnson, who leads the Pirates in scoring so far. He is sinking 36% of his three-pointers and has increased his effectiveness in the paint too, doubling his rebounding averages and improving his shooting percentage in this young season through five games. Supporting Johnson in the backcourt is senior guard Xzavier Long and newcomer senior Michael Eley from Tulane. Hampton runs a lot of their offense through the 6’7” Long, who was promoted from his role on the bench last season and is now a critical part of their rotation. With these big guards and wings, Hampton has generally had a good defense this year against its peers, but they also gave up 91 points to Virginia and 90 points to Milwaukee.
The Pirates are much weaker in the frontcourt. They lack a big who is a real scoring threat and have one of the worst defensive rebounding rates in the country. If Boston College can lean on Boden Kapke and Jayden Hastings to be effective in the paint, they should be able to take control of this game rather quickly. Hampton’s KenPom ranking is 255, not as low as Central Connecticut’s 300 ranking, but still the kind of team that BC would hope to easily defeat at home. Probably easier said than done.
Prediction: Boston College 72 Hampton 61
