I had this entire thing written up in my head. Excitement over the last two weeks, even against lackluster competition, etc. And then Friday rolled around and the injury report came out. Then we’ve gotten
several reports indicating that Klubnik is a game time decision, but a lot of pessimism around the team on if he will play. Just the perfect thing to see as SMU comes to town and Clemson has had some time beating up on several cupcakes.
Let us be frank here, Christopher Vizzina has not shown a lot in his backup duties. Basic things like arm strength haven’t been apparent. And while SMU hasn’t shown out quite like last year, this is still a talented team. Vizzina is going to have to make throws and channel his inner Chase Brice in this one if Clemson is going to win.
Winning today is probably going to have hearken back to the DJU years. The defense is going to have to be excellent. The run game is going to have to be effective, and Vizzina just can’t turn the ball over. Or Vizzina shows up as the second coming of Trevor Lawrence and makes us all look really dumb. Which frankly I’m not opposed to. Though it may be more likely we see Mr. Pearman in than that.
