Following Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena, assistant coach Aaron Danks reflected on a performance that left the coaching staff with mixed emotions. While disappointed not to collect all three points, Danks was pleased with what Bayern produced, particularly after the break.
Danks acknowledged that Dortmund’s defensive record presented a significant challenge, but he felt Bayern found plenty of ways to break through and create opportunities. The second half,
in particular, offered plenty of encouragement, with Bayern establishing better control of the match and putting Dortmund under sustained pressure.
“I think mixed emotions. We’re really pleased with the performance, especially this second half. I thought we found good control, and as we spoke before the game, they’ve got a really good defensive record, but I thought we found lots of ways of creating chances today. So ultimately we’ll feel disappointed that we haven’t got the win. But I have to break it down for the players and explain to them the performance was there. You did everything right. We had the right moments for us, and it just didn’t go our way today,” Danks said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It is a frustrating result for Bayern, particularly considering the opportunity to extend their advantage over Dortmund in the Bundesliga title race. However, Danks clearly wants the players to recognize the positives rather than allow the dropped points to overshadow an encouraging performance.
The result was not what FC Bayern wanted, but the performance gave them plenty to build on.
