Being an Atlanta Falcons fan could break men and women with less steel in their spines than we have. After learning just a short time ago that Michael Penix Jr. could miss the season, we learned that Drake
London is also set to miss time. This is going to torpedo an already inconsistent passing attack and make the rest of the season even harder to watch than it already was, especially because I don’t believe London will miss just one week with a PCL sprain.
London has been one of the few bright spots on offense this season, with 60 receptions for 810 yards and six touchdowns in just nine games. He was on pace to set new career highs across the board again, but will now likely not get the shot to do so.
With London out, the receiving corps becomes a full-blown emergency situation. Darnell Mooney is still struggling and has been either injured or banged-up all year long, David Sills is the third receiver, and the fill-in options for London include KhaDarel Hodge and Casey Washington. The team will dip into their practice squad reserves to fill this thing out, but at this point it’s a grim state of affairs that cries out for a signing just to give Kirk Cousins a chance of making it through the season without breaking physically, mentally, or both.
The 3-7 Falcons will, either way, have to lean extremely heavily on Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts for at least a week and likely longer, with matchups against the Saints and Jets on deck as they try to salvage some wins and dignity out of the final seven game slate.
We wish London well on his recovery and hope to see him again this year, but above all, that he’s completely healthy when he returns.
