The New York Giants are celebrating after a 12-7 victory against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants held the Titans off the scoreboard for most of the game, but surrendered a fourth-quarter touchdown. The Titans had one more chance to score as the game was winding down, and Tennessee was on the doorstep of scoring in the red zone. Giants defensive back Jevon Holland had other plans, though. He picked off Titans quarterback Cam Ward in the end zone, sealing the victory for Big
Blue.
“As I seen him break the pocket, I’m the free player so I was going to hold him up. If he sees me running at him, he might stop and try to let the ball go. But then I seen him step to stay lateral and find people. He does scramble with his eyes on the field and I just stayed around the front of the end zone,” Holland said postgame.
The pick was Holland’s third in as many weeks, giving him the league lead. Having his playmaking skills on the back end of the Giants defense is huge and it’s part of why the team is 2-1 through the first three games of the year.
Quarterback Jameis Winston said after the game that he told Holland on Friday he would make the key play to win the game on Sunday. Winston proved prescient.
Holland’s three interceptions already mark a career high for the sixth-year pro, following his four seasons with the Miami Dolphins and two with the Giants. Holland spoke about why he is seeing a great deal of success out of the gate.
“The ball’s just coming my way. I don’t know if anybody can tell you, there’s no rhyme or reason to it.
I’m just trying to catch the ones that throw to me. I have been on the jugs though every day, just in case they do this. But other than that, they come in bunches. So the ball’s just been coming my way and I’ve been trying to make sure I’m on my keys and techniques so I’m in the right spot,“ Holland said.
Holland and the Giants are back in action in Week 4 as they host the Arizona Cardinals. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET inside MetLife Stadium. Fans can watch the game on CBS or stream it on Paramount Plus.
