Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje and the U.S. U17 team continue to crush it in Turkey, this time with a 114-65 win over Australia in the semifinals.
Although the U.S. ultimately rolled again, it wasn’t as easy. Australia was down just 23-21 after the first quarter, before the U.S. built a 14-point lead at the half.
Team USA blew the Aussies away after that, going up 81-45 after the third quarter, and rolling through the fourth quarter as well to reach the 49-point margin. The U.S. outscored the Aussies on turnovers
38-1, which gives you an idea of the different level of these two teams.
Boumtje Boumtje had another impressive game, scoring 23 points on 9-16/6-11, grabbed 15 rebounds, and also had 3 steals and a block.
The finals are Sunday against Serbia, and they’ve obviously done well to date.
Next week though, Boumtje Boumtje will be in Durham, and soon we’ll get an idea of how well his FIBA success translates into college basketball. Watching him go up against Patrick Ngongba, Cameron Williams, and Drew Scharnowski is going to be very interesting indeed.
