Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß had an electric appearance on SPORT1-Doppelpass on Sunday and one of the topics he tackled was about the rumors of friction within the Bayern Munich organization.
“Firstly, I’m elected to the supervisory board. And secondly, if anyone there says they don’t want me anymore, I’ll be gone. The moment we have the right people in the right positions, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I will step down,” said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
@iMiaSanMia would go on to
summarize what meant:
Hoeneß asked whether he just doesn’t want to let go and retire for good, he says that he would like to enjoy his retirement, but if ‘something isn’t going well’, then he feels he has to interfere.
Hoeneß also said that arguments and disagreements in the front office are just part of the gig.
“A tough job certainly leads to arguments. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I often argued, but afterward things were always fine. Max is a bit more sensitive in that regard. One thing is clear: making transfers at the end of August is never a good idea and always expensive. I also gave Max this advice: it’s better to make the transfers in June and July when other clubs haven’t really started yet. In the last 2-3 weeks things become difficult,” said Hoeneß.
Hoeneß, though, did somewhat walk the commentary back when asked if Max Eberl is going to leave the club.
“These are rumours and speculation. At the supervisory board, we have no problem at all with Max Eberl. Of course we had discussions, but a separation was never a topic. Is he thinking about resigning? You have to ask him that. Max has had a tough time recently mainly due to the pressure put on him from the outside,” Hoeneß said. “I have the feeling that our coach, Christoph Freund and Max Eberl are working well together. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Herbert Hainer and I at the supervisory board would absolutely love not to interfere. But we can’t not interfere when we see things going wrong.”
Bayern Munich is back in action this week and a tough slate of games lies ahead. Before we tackle all of that, though, there is much to unpack from Germany’s international break and the explosive performance from Uli Hoeneß on SPORT1-Doppelpass over the weekend.
Let’s get into all of that more on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show! This is what we have on tap:
- Let’s talk about the good, the bad, and ugly from Germany’s international break performances vs. Slovakia and Northern Ireland.
- Julian Nagelsmann is in a make-or-break period with Germany.
- Does the DFB need to think about bringing in Jürgen Klopp to overhaul the entire organization.
- Uli Hoeneß says Bayern Munich was the real winner of the transfer window and that Nicolas Jackson needs to get 40 starts for the obligation to buy clause to activate.
- Chuck quickly addresses Philadelphia’s return to the spotlight (for all of the wrong reasons).
- It’s time to turn focus back to Bayern Munich.
