The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to sign guard John Tonje to a two-way contract, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

The Portland Trail Blazers are signing guard John Tonje on a two-way NBA contract, George Roussakis and Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. Tonje appeared in six games for the Celtics last season as a rookie.

Tonje, 25, was selected by the Utah Jazz with the No. 53 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and signed by the Jazz to a two-way deal later that summer. The 6-foot-4 guard appeared

in 32 NBA G League games with the Salt Lake City Stars before the Jazz traded him to the Boston Celtics in a February deal for forward Chris Boucher, a future second-round pick, and cash considerations. To close out his rookie season, Tonje played 11 G League games with the Maine Celtics and six games with the Boston Celtics.

Across his G League regular-season appearances with Salt Lake City and Maine, Tonje averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 31.3 minutes per game while shooting 44% from the field and 35.4% from behind the 3-point line (on 6.4 attempts per game). During his extremely limited NBA burn with the Celtics, Tonje averaged 2.5 points and 7 minutes per game.

Before entering the NBA, Tonje played five seasons of college basketball at Colorado State (2019-2023), Missouri (2023-24) and Wisconsin (2024-25).

The signing of Tonje means the Blazers have filled their three available two-way spots ahead of the 2026-27 regular season. Tonje joins guard Chris Youngblood and forward Jayson Kent as Portland’s other two-way players.
