When Bayern Munich signed Konrad Laimer, the appeal was obvious: tactical flexibility, relentless pressing, and a player willing to do the dirty work without complaint. Now, with Laimer reportedly earning a total package of €9 million in base salary plus €2.25 million in bonuses (€11.25 million total), the question becomes — how much higher, if at all, should Bayern be willing to go?
Laimer is not the headline star. He is not the face of the franchise or the creative hub. What he is, however, is incredibly
valuable in a squad that competes on multiple fronts every season. He can play right-back, central midfield, or operate as an aggressive No. 8. Coaches trust him in big matches because of his discipline and work rate. Those qualities matter — especially in Champions League knockout ties and Klassiker-type clashes where structure and intensity win games.
But Bayern must be careful.
The club has worked hard in recent years to rebalance its wage structure. Handing out raises too freely — especially to rotational or system players — can create ripple effects in the locker room. If Laimer pushes beyond the €14 million to €15 million total compensation range, Bayern have to ask whether that aligns with his role in the squad hierarchy.
A reasonable compromise would be performance-based escalation. Keep the base salary near the current €11 million to €12 million mark and increase bonuses tied to appearances, titles, or Champions League progression. That rewards contribution without inflating fixed costs.
Laimer is extremely useful. He embodies Bayern Munich’s pressing identity and versatility. But Bayern Munich should pay him like a high-level squad pillar — not a superstar.
So how high should they go? Carefully high — but not recklessly so. Tell us what you think is fair in the comments, below!
