Colorado State sunk the tying extra point to know the game at 17 apiece with 29 seconds left. The UTSA Roadrunners, without a single timeout at their disposal, were bracing for an expeditious field goal drive or overtime as the two likely possibilities — until the referee tossed a flag after the Rams’ extra point sunk through the upright.
UTSA jumped offsides, giving Colorado State the decision to attempt a 2-pointer for the win from one yard out. Rams head coach Jay Norvell took the opportunity and
removed his own point from the scoreboard, eyeing a victory instead of overtime. Colorado State quarterback Jackson Brousseau fielded the snap, spun counterclockwise, and rolled out to his right. He pump faked a throw to his running back Lloyd Avant in the flat. Then when pressure approached, Brousseau released the ball. Avant made a diving grab to secure it, but one problem — he was out of bounds.
UTSA proceeded to swat Colorado State’s last-ditch onside kick outside of the playing field, securing a 17-16 victory for the Roadrunners. Although it came down to the final seconds, UTSA never trailed on the road at Fort Collins and secured its first regular season road victory since 2023 — snapping an 8-game losing streak.
As expected, the hero for the Roadrunners was running back Robert Henry Jr. Henry already entered the matchup ranked atop the FBS in rushing at 480 yards on a blistering 10.2 average. The running back continued his rampage through the 2025 season, racking up 144 rushing yards for his sixth consecutive 140+ yard outing, a career-high 76 receiving yards, and both of UTSA’s touchdowns.
Both Henry touchdowns stemmed from long range. He initiated the scoring effort on the night, breaking loose in the second quarter for a 76-yard scamper. Then he provided UTSA’s go-ahead touchdown with 4:49 remaining, catching a screen from Owen McCown and hustling 74 yards down the left sideline to the house. Through four weeks, Henry has four 75+ yard touchdowns to lead the FBS in that category.
Henry accounted for 220 of UTSA’s 345 total yards, and outside of the two lengthy Henry touchdowns, it was a day of struggle for a usually-potent offense. The Roadrunners lost the turnover battle 2-0 and suffered three three-and-outs, keeping Colorado State within the low-scoring, penalty-abundant affair.
However, the Rams saw their own issues at home. Colorado State swapped longtime starter Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi for Brousseau in the early fourth quarter to spark the offense, and it worked. Brousseau’s first drive went 67 yards for a touchdown as Akron transfer Tahj Bullock finished with a 10-yard rushing score. Then his second and final drive amassed 75 yards, as he delivered a touchdown to Rocky Beers with 29 seconds remaining before the missed extra point. Brousseau finished 1o-of-12 for 78 yards and a touchdown, nearly guiding the Rams to a late comeback.
Prior to Brousseau’s entrance, one inhibitor of Colorado State’s offense was UTSA outside linebacker Nnanna Anyanwu. Stepping in for the injured Camron Cooper (out for the season), Anyanwu shined with three sacks and four tackles for loss in the victory — with one sack forcing a key turnover on downs in the third quarter.
Thanks to Henry and Anyanwu’s strong performances on the road, as well as a fended-off two-point attempt, UTSA improves to 2-2 while Colorado State falls to 1-2. The Roadrunners prepare for conference play after a Week 5 bye, and they’ll travel to Philadelphia for a matchup with Temple.
