The Kentucky Wildcats got destroyed on Senior Day inside Rupp Arena as the Florida Gators coasted past the Cats. The final score of 84-77 made the game look far more competitive than it really was, as the Gators dominated the first half and cruised to the finish line before Kentucky made a late push in the closing minutes.
Heading into today’s game, there were several different scenarios that could play out for Kentucky in Nashville next week. They could win today and get the No. 4 seed and a double
bye, or they could lose and possibly fall as far as the 10 seed and get no bye.
Well, after today’s loss, BBN will have to take over Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, as Kentucky will not even get a single bye as they had in last year’s tournament. While the Wildcats’ actual seed won’t be known until the conclusion of Oklahoma at Texas, we know for a fact that they’ll be playing on Wednesday.
If Oklahoma beats Texas, Kentucky will be the 9 seed and play the 16 seed at 12:30 PM ET on Wednesday. But if Texas wins, the Cats will be the 10 seed and face the 15 seed at 7 PM ET.
There isn’t much more to say about this season than just pointing out how disappointing it has been. The Cats went from pre-season national championship contenders to playing on the opening night of the SEC Tournament in Nashville.
Mark Pope and his team will still make the NCAA Tournament, and it wouldn’t shock everyone if they made a run to the second weekend. However, the ceiling of this team seems to be the Sweet 16. It definitely seems like an impossible task to ask this team to win five games in a row in Nashville, but miracles do happen.
